Privacy Policy

ProtonChat is a members-only chat with disappearing messages. This page explains, plainly, what we collect and what happens to it.

What we collect

From Google sign-in: your name, email address, and profile photo — nothing else from your Google account. We never see your Google password.
What you create: your chat messages, emoji reactions, and the images you upload.
Security records: a log of sign-in events with IP address and browser identifier, used only to protect accounts and investigate abuse.
Cookies: one session cookie keeps you signed in (up to 90 days). We use no advertising or analytics trackers.

How long it lives

Messages are permanently deleted from our servers 24 hours after they are sent (and only the newest 100 are kept before that).
Images are deleted when you remove them or when a new upload replaces your oldest (each member keeps at most 16).
Reactions are deleted with their message.
Routine database backups may retain deleted content for a limited period before the backups themselves rotate away.

Who can see what

Your messages, reactions, name, and avatar are visible to signed-in members only. The chat and every uploaded image require sign-in; nothing is public or visible to search engines.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. The only third party involved is Google, which handles the sign-in itself under Google's privacy policy.
We would disclose information only if legally required to.

Why sign-in is through Google

We use Google sign-in so that ProtonChat never stores a password for you — authentication happens on Google's side, protected by your Google account's own security (including any two-factor protection you have enabled). Google shares only your name, email address, and profile photo with us; it does not share your age or date of birth.

Age requirement

ProtonChat is for adults: you must be 18 or older to use it. Because Google sign-in does not reveal your age, the requirement is enforced by your own confirmation when you sign in. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete the account and its data.

Your controls

Sign out anywhere from your account page.
Delete your account there too — it permanently removes your profile, settings, sessions, messages, reactions, and images. This cannot be undone.
Delete any of your images at any time from My Images, and any of your messages directly in the chat.
